UFC Fight Night: Diaz vs. Guillard will take place on Wednesday night at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City. It will be available free on SpikeTV. The card is headlined by two veteran lightweight fighter, Nate Diaz (10-4-0) and Melvin Guillard (41-8-3-1NC). It's definately a sub-par main event. Probably due to the fact the UFC is trying to downplay Roger Huerta's final fight in the UFC. Huerta (22-2-1-1NC) will take on Gray Maynard (8-0-0-1NC) in another lightweight match-up that promises to be exciting. Here are some of my thoughts:
Nate Diaz (10-4-0) vs. Melvin "The Young Assassin" Guillard (41-8-3, 1NC)
In this main-event, both fighter have something to prove. Diaz, the former Ultimate Fighter: Season 5 winner, has lost two consecutive fights to Clay Guida and Joe Stevenson. He needs to show that he can compete with the divisions top contenders. Guillard, on the other hand, recently returned to the UFC after being released from the company a year ago and has three consecutive wins in his return. Guillard has always brought excitement in the ring but has been labeled as a "tease" for his inconsistencies. Guillard will try and keep the fight standing and go for the knockout while Diaz will try to fight to his strengths and take Guillard to the ground. Look for Diaz to win by submission in the 2nd round.
Gray "The Bully" Maynard (8-0-0, 1NC) vs. Roger "El Matador" Huerta (22-2-1, 1NC)
This fight would have probably been the main event of the card if Roger Huerta wasn't leaving the UFC. Both fighters have gained credibility in different ways. Maynard came up through The Ultimate Fighter and although he didn't win the show, he proved he belonged in UFC by winning his first five fights. Huerta became a hit the old fashion way. A steady crop of opponents and exciting finishes. Huerta and the UFC could not come to an agreement on a new contract because of money and Huerta's commitment to becoming an actor (everyone knows how Dana White feels about that). Look for Huerta to try and go out with a bang and make the UFC regret not paying him what he wanted. I see Huerta winning this fight via knockout in the first round.
Other notable fights on the card:
Carlos Condit (23-5-0) vs. Jake Ellenberger (21-4-0)
Nate Quarry (17-3-0) vs. Tim Credeur (13-4-0)
Steve Cantwell (7-2-0) vs. Brian Stann (6-2-0)
Sam Stout (15-5-1) vs. Phillipe Nover (6-2-0)
CB Dollaway (9-3-0) vs. Jay Silva (5-1-0)
