UFC 103 will go down tomorrow night, live from the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas. Spike TV will broadcast and hour of the undercard fights at 9p.m. At 10 o'clock the event will be moved to pay-per-view. The event features two exciting match-ups. In the main event, veteran fighter Vitor Belfort will make his long-awaited return to the UFC to take on Rich Franklin in a catch-weight fight. In the other featured match up, up-and-coming heavyweight, Junior dos Santos will take on one of the deadliest knock-out artists of all-time, Mirko Cro Cop. Both fights promise to excite. Here are some of my thoughts:
Vitor "Phenom" Beflort (18-8-0) vs. Rich "Ace" Franklin (27-4-0,1NC)
A lot of people, including myself, can underestimate Franklin sometimes. Even though that's the case, Franklin is going to be in tough against UFC veteran Vitor Belfort. Belfort is coming off of three strong win before joining the UFC and will really look to take it to Franklin. Although Franklin is the cream-of-the-crop in the Middleweight division, he will not be prepared for Belforts speed and power. Look for Belfort to win via knock out in the 2nd round. Hopefully I'm not underestimating Franklin again.
Junior "Cigano" dos Santos (8-1-0) vs. Mirko Cro Cop(26-6-2,1NC)
This fight will probably the most exciting on the card. Both fighters are trying to climb their way up the Heavyweight ladder to get a title shot. Dos Santos is an up-and-comer, posting wins in his first two UFC bouts. His youth and size will definitely be an advantage in the fight. But Cro Cop is an MMA legend and if experience means anything, he has a good chance himself. The Croatian had a tough time in his first two fight in the UFC but proved in his last fight that he is ready to start making moves in the division. I think Cro Cop will win the fight via knock out in the first round.
Martin "The Hitman" Kampmann (15-2-0) vs. Paul Daley (21-8-2)
This would have been a great card if Mike Swick didn't have to pull out of the bout. This was supposed to be the number one contender match to see who would take on Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre. Daley is making his UFC debut and comes in with some credibility. He's good on his feet but Kampann is a much more well-rounded fight. Expect Kampmann to take the bout to the ground and finish the fight via knockout in the second round.
Frank "Twinkle Toes" Trigg (19-6-0) vs. Josh "Kos" Koscheck (14-4-0)
Trigg is another fighter making his UFC return at 103. He has always been a likable guy with exciting fights. It's a good story but Trigg is 37 years old and Koscheck is a top-ten Welterweight. Koscheck will take the fight to the ground and ware down Trigg with his wrestling. He will probably win by submission in the 2nd or 3rd round.
Other Notable Fights on the Card:
Tyson Griffin (13-2-0) vs. Hermes Franca (20-7-0)
Efrain Escudero (12-0-0) vs. Cole Miller (15-3-0)
Drew McFedries (8-5-0) vs. Tomasz Drwal (16-2-0)
Elliot Marshall (7-2-0) vs. Jason Brilz (17-1-1)
Rob Emerson (10-7-0, 1NC) vs. Rafael Dos Anjos (11-4-0)
