News & Notes



MLB

- ESPN is reporting that the umpires working the series between the Angels and Red Sox have filed a report complaining about Angles unprofessionalism during the series. If anyone watched the series, there were a lot of blown calls that could have changed the outcome of the game. "Their deportment as we left the field, going through the Angels dugout, left a lot to be desired," plate umpire Rick Reed told Boston Herald.
- P Chan Ho Park is ready to return to the Philadelphia Phillies after missing 2-3 weeks with a strained right hamstring.
- The Milwaukee Brewers may decide to shut down P Yiovanni Gallardo for the remainder of the season.

NBA

- The Denver Nuggets are close to reaching an agreement with G Ronald Murray. The offer on the table is for one year at $1.1 million dollars.
- Yahoo Sports has reported that New Jersey Nets F Yi Jianlian may miss the start of the season because of a commitment to play a tournament in his native, China. The Nets have stated that they support the move. It will be interesting to see if they change their opinion closer to the start of the season.
- Greece and Spain have advanced to the semi-finals of the EuroBasket tournament.

NFL

- New England Patriots LB Adalius Thomas has been fined $5,000 for his late fourth-quarter his on Buffalo Bills QB Trent Edwards.
- According to ESPN, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has offered former fan-favourite, Jerome Bettis a job with the team.
- The Chicago Bears picked up CB Deangelo Smith today. In another move, they let inured DE Trumain McBride go.

NHL

- It is being reported that F Rob Niedermayer is negotiating with a KHL club as he remains unsigned.
- New York Islanders F Kyle Okposo is our indefinitely with a mild concussion. Okposo had to be carted off the ice in Thursday's pre-season game after a huge hit from Calgary Flames D Dion Phaneuf.
- In others Islanders news, rookie F Pascal Morency has been suspended indefinitely for jumping off of the bench to fight Phaneuf following his hit on Okposo.

UFC

- Welterweight Champ and Quebec native, Georges St. Pierre, told TSN.ca in an interview that he will be ready to resume training in October and will be ready to fight in the new year.
