MLB
- Chicago White Sox P Jake Peavy will make his debut with the White Sox this Saturday against the Kansas City Royals. Peavy injured his ankle in June and has been on the DL ever since. He was traded to Chicago in a deadline deal from San Diego.
- The White Sox made another move Wednesday, releasing P Bartolo Colon.
- The San Francisco Giants have activated P Randy Johnson from the 60-day disabled list and have added him to their bullpen.
- Detroit Tigers OF Magglio Ordonez has picked up his $18 million dollar player option for the 2010 season.
- Boston Red Sox 1B Kevin Youkilis went to the hospital last night after missing a game with back spasms. Red Sox Manager confirmed the story, saying Youkilis went to the hospital because he thought he had kidney stones.
NBA
- Indiana Pacers co-owner, Melvin Simon, died today at the age of 81.
- The Los Angeles Clippers have re-signed PF Brian Skinner today. As per team policy, terms were not disclosed.
- In Euro Basket Tournament news, Spain and Serbia are the first two teams to lock-up quarter-finals berths in the tourney. Stay tuned for more on the event.
- Contrary to rumours, the Miami Heat do not have interest in former Indiana Pacer PG Jamal Tinsley. Miami is content with going into the season with 2nd year PG Mario Chalmers as their starter.
NFL
- The Brett Favre injury saga of last season has come to a conclusion. The NFL has fined the New York Jets and former coach Eric Mangini $125k for manipulating 2008 injury reports. If you are unfamiliar with the story, Brett Favre played the final month of the season with a torn biceps tendon. The Jets did not disclose any injury information with regards to Favre in their injury reports. The Jets were fined $75k while Mangini and GM Mike Tannenbaum were fined $25k a piece.
- New England Patriots LB Jered Mayo sprained his MCL in the dramatic Monday nighter against the Buffalo Bills. Coach Bill Bellichick told
ESPN that Mayo would probably be ready to play this weekend.
NHL
- The New Jersey Devils have announced that star LW Patrik Elias will be out of action for 3-6 weeks to have a procedure to remove scar tissue in his groin.
- D Brett Hedican announced his retirement this afternoon. The 17-year veteran, Hedican, player in over 1,000 career games and won a Stanley Cup in 2006 with the Carolina Hurricanes.
- Washington Captials star LW Alexander Ovechkin was name the D.C. Sportsman of the Year for the second straight year on Tuesday.
- New York Islanders rookie sensation C John Tavares will make his pre-season debut tonight against the Edmonton Oilers. 2009 first overall pick, Tavares, missed the Isle's first pre-season game on Monday due to flu-like symptoms.
NCAA
- NCAA President Myles Brand died today after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Brand has served as NCAA President since January 2003.
UFC
