News & Notes



MLB


- According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Albert Pujols and the St. Louis Cardinals are talking extension. "Albert has two years left but we've also had conversations with him and his representative, and they know we want Albert to finish his career as a Cardinal," indicated Cardinals Chairman Bill Dewitt. 
- Alex Rodriguez is back in the news after being ejected from Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles by home plate umpire Marty Foster. Rodriguez says that Foster acted unprofessionally. "I thought in that situation, when we need a win today, for him to take in into his own hands with no warning, I thought it was very unprofessional," Rodriguez told the New York Post
- The Chicago Sun-Times has reported that Jake Peavy is close to a return with the White Sox. "You can speculate that there is going to be a bullpen Tuesday or Wednesday. You can speculate that he will be pitching two or three days after that bullpen," pitching coach Don Cooper told the Sun-Times.

NBA
- Former Utah Jazz center, Greg Ostertag, is looking to make a comeback to the NBA. The 36-year-old has been invited to training camp with the Portland Trail Blazers.
- The New York Knicks singed PG Gabe Pruitt. This was an obvious depth move. Pruitt has spent the last two year in Boston.
- The Milwaukee Bucks have declined to match Minnesota's 4 year/16 million dollar offer-sheet for PG Ramon Sessions, allowing Sessions to sign with the Wolves. No surprises here.

NFL 

- Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb is week-to-week with a broken rib suffered on a TD run in Sunday's victory over the Carolina Panthers.
- Chicago Bears star MLB Brian Urlacher is out for the rest of season after undergoing surgery to repair his dislocated right wrist.
- Indianapolis Colts WR Anthony Gonzalez suffered a strained ligament in his right knee after a collision in Sundays victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is expected to be out 2-6 weeks.
- NY Giants rookie WR Hakeem Nicks is day-to-day with a sprained left foot.

NHL 
- The Minnesota Wild have invited F Petr Sykora to training camp for a tryout. Sykora found himself without a contract this off-season after a 46 point season with the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins.
Phoenix Coyotes coach Wayne Gretzky was absent on Saturday as the team opened camp. It is speculated that it has something to do with the clubs current bankruptcy court case.
- Anaheim Ducks coach Randy Carlyle has informed the Los Angeles Times that G Jonas Hiller and G Jean-Sebastian Giguere will compete for the starting goalie position in camp.
- Boston Bruins C David Krejci may miss the season opener. He is recovering from off-season hip surgery.


MLS
- Recently signed Designated Player, Julian DeGuzman, might play for Toronto FC this week in Los Angeles. DeGuzman did not play in TFC's win on Sunday against Colorado.


UFC 
- Randy Couture and Brandon Vera will headline the UFC 105 card on November 14th in Manchester, England. 
- The Ultimate Fighter: Season 10 Heavyweights will premiere on Wednesday at 10pm after Ultimate Fight Night on SpikeTV. This highly anticipated season's coaches will be Rashad Evans and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. Internet street-fighting star Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson will be a contestant on the show to try to fight his way into the UFC.
