News & Notes



MLB

- The St. Petersburg Times reported that Tampa Bay Rays OF Carl Crawford blew up today at batting practice. Crawford got into it with Rays OF  Pat Burrel, shouting at him angrily in front of the other players and the media. The two had to be separated and coach Joe Maddon said everything was fine when peace was restored. Both Crawford and Burrel weren't available to comment on the fracas.
- Although it was rumoured that Milwaukee Brewers 1B Prince Fielder was going to be shopped this off-season to add some starting pitching. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported that team owner Mark Attanasio is not interested in moving Fielder.
- The MLB rumour mill is heating. It seems as though there will be a lot of players moving this off-season. Check the Rumours section for more.

NBA

- Veteran PF Juan Howard has signed a one-year deal with the Portland Trail Blazers. As per team policy, terms were not disclosed.
- The Miami Heat will retired Tim Hardaway's #10 at the season-opener versus the New York Knicks.
- The Indiana Pacers have signed Luther Head to a one-year contract.
- The Associated Press reports free agent F/G Desmond Mason will sign with the Sacramento Kings within the next few days.
- Atlanta Hawks F Josh Smith will have seven stitches to close up a gash on his forehead. He injured himself during a pick-up game this week with some of his Hawks teammates. He will be out of action for at least 10 days.
- Earlier in the off-season, Boston Celtics GM Danny Ainge said he would seek an contract extension with PG Rajon Rondo. Rondo told reporters that the report is false and the Celtics have not offered him a new contract.
- Alan Hahn of Newsday is reporting that the Portland Trail Blazers rejected a proposed deal from the New York Knicks of G/F Rudy Fernandez for PF David Lee.

NFL

- The Baltimore Sun is reporting that CB/S Chris McCalister  has told some people that he will sign with the Oakland Raiders this week.
- Recently waived WR Hank Baskett has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts and will report to practice with the team today.

NHL

- After inviting F Petr Sykora to training camp, the Minnesota Wild have officially signed the 14-year veteran to a one-year deal today.
