- According to ESPN, the San Francisco Giants are close to finalizing new contracts with GM Brian Sabean and manager Bruce Bochy. An announcement could come as early as Monday.
- Tampa Bay Rays P Chad Bradford has been shut down for the remainder of the season because of discomfort in his elbow. Bradford told the St. Petersburg Times that it may be time for retirement.

- The Houston Rockets will pick up the 2010-2011 option on the contract of PG Aaron Brooks before the start of the regular season.
- Boston Celtics F Bill Walker underwent successful arthroscopic right knee surgery today. No timetable has been set for his return.

- Reports out of Dallas indicated that Cowboys WR Roy Williams is frustrated with his role in the offense. He has not taken the T.O. approach and criticize his quarterback, stating that Tony Romo is the team leader.
- Buffalo Bills CB Leodis McKelvin is out for the season after suffering a cracked bone in his right fibula during Sunday's loss. He has been moved to the IR list to make room for RB Marshawn Lynch, who will play this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.
- Pittsburgh Steelers injured S Troy Polamalu could play this Sunday against the San Diego Chargers. Polamalu told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that "it would be nice to play this weekend".
- San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson, who sprained his ankle in the season opener, has returned to practice this week. He is still unlikely to play Sunday but could be ready for next week.
- Dallas Cowboys RB Felix Jones will not play this week against the Denver Broncos according to the Dallas Morning News. He is out with a sprained ligament in his left knee.
NHL
- Last night, during pre-season ceremonies, the Colorado Avalanche retired long time captain Joe Sakic's No. 19. The banner raised to commemorate Sakic bears his name and number.
- The Associated Press is reporting that the Florida Panthers have picked Randy Sexton to be their new GM.
- The Dallas Stars have signed D Stephane Robidas to a four-year contract extension worth $13.2 million.
- The Anaheim Ducks have named D Scott Niedermayer as team captain for the 2009-2010 season.
- The judge in the Phoenix Coyotes bankruptcy case has rejected bid by both the NHL and Jim Balsillie to purchase the team. Call it a win for the NHL. They only bid to make sure Balsillie didn't get the team and move it to Canada. For more on this story check out the link.

- Inside Fights is reporting that Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will get a title shot against the winner of the Shane Carwin vs. Brock Lesnar fight in November.
- Strikeforce are rumoured to be interested in picking up the contract of former WWE superstar, Bobby Lashley.
- 6.1 million viewers tuned in to the much-anticipated match-up of Kimbo Slice against Roy Nelson Wednesday on SpikeTV. The number is the most all-time for a UFC televised event. No surprises here.
